The school expects candidates to demonstrate exceptional academic ability, typically achieving high GCSE/IGCSE/GCE grades, including in their chosen A-Level subjects.

The first stage of the application process involves the UKiset assessment, an adaptive cognitive online test, assessing verbal, non-verbal, and numerical abilities, along with English proficiency. This test, taken by both UK and international candidates, is crucial in gauging underlying academic abilities and must be completed between January and July in Year 10.

Following the UKiset assessment, candidates submit their latest school report and a summary of co-curricular interests by the end of July. These documents, along with the UKiset scores, undergo a thorough review by the school’s admissions team.

Successful candidates then progress to the final stage, which includes taking Sixth Form entrance examinations at Wycombe Abbey. These exams, based on GCSE syllabuses, are complemented by an interview with a senior staff member. The school’s campus, originally known as ‘Loakes House’, has historical significance dating back to the 13th century when it was part of the holding of the Abbess of Godstow. The transformation of Loakes House into Wycombe Abbey by architect James Wyatt and its subsequent development has contributed to the school’s distinguished character. During World War II, Wycombe Abbey was requisitioned by the Air Ministry, serving as the headquarters of the United States Eighth Air Force, before being returned to the school in 1946.
