The University of Hertfordshire, located in Hatfield, is an innovative institution that has been providing higher education since its establishment in 1948. The Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree is accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and is a four-year, full-time course that combines scientific education with practical clinical training. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the science behind drugs and medicines, as well as the skills required for safe, effective, and patient-centred pharmacy practice. The program incorporates innovative teaching methods, such as problem-based learning and interprofessional education, which allow students to develop strong critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills. One of the standout features of the University of Hertfordshire’s MPharm program is its strong emphasis on experiential learning. Students benefit from early exposure to real-world pharmacy practice through a series of clinical placements, which are integrated into the curriculum from the first year onwards.

University of Hertfordshire Pharmacy Interview Format

Previously, the University of Hertfordshire invited students to an online group interview where they were assessed by the admissions tutor. This interview focused on three elements – firstly, why the applicant is interested in applying to study pharmacy, secondly, a situational judgement assessment, and thirdly, a group discussion. Students were invited to ask any questions at the end of the process. However, the GPhC has outlined that an individual element must either be added or must replace this group format – they have ‘set a condition that the provider must include an individual element within the interactive part of the selection process. This is because the group interview process alone does not appear to be appropriate to present a fair process for all applicants that allows the values and behaviours of each individual to be assessed in an equitable way.’
