Ulster University Pharmacy Interview Format

The interview at Ulster is in-person and will take approximately 6-10 minutes. Online sessions are also available for those unable to attend in person. The interviews will not assess the knowledge of Pharmacy or Science and will not be used to rank candidates, rather to check that they are suitable for the course. Interestingly, applicants who are unsuccessful in the first interview will be given another opportunity to demonstrate key qualities via a follow-up phone call.

Before the Interview

Preparing for this interview requires an understanding of the standards and attributes expected of a pharmacist, as outlined by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). To make a strong impression during the interview, it is crucial to demonstrate your awareness of these standards and show how you embody the qualities of a competent and caring pharmacist. First, familiarise yourself with the GPhC’s Standards for Pharmacy Professionals, which encompass nine domains, including professionalism, effective communication, leadership, and maintaining knowledge and skills. Reflect on your experiences and achievements, and be prepared to provide examples of how you have demonstrated these standards in practice. Next, research the attributes required of a pharmacist, such as strong analytical skills, attention to detail, empathy, and ethical decision-making. Consider how your academic, extracurricular, and work experiences have allowed you to develop these qualities.
