UCLAN Pharmacy Interview Questions

Pharmacy Application & Interview Preparation Specialists

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) is one of the largest universities in the UK, with a strong commitment to teaching excellence, research, and innovation. The MPharm program at UCLAN is a four-year, full-time undergraduate degree, accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). UCLAN’s MPharm program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and professional attitude necessary to excel in the dynamic field of pharmacy. The curriculum is structured around three key areas: pharmaceutical science, pharmacy practice, and professional skills. These areas are integrated throughout the program, providing students with a solid foundation in the core principles of pharmacy while also allowing them to develop their practical and professional abilities. Pharmaceutical science modules cover subjects such as pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, and pharmacokinetics. These topics are essential for understanding the scientific basis of drug action, drug design, and drug delivery. In the pharmacy practice modules, students learn about the clinical aspects of pharmacy, including therapeutics, patient care, and the role of pharmacists in the healthcare system. Professional skills modules focus on enhancing students’ communication, teamwork, leadership, and decision-making abilities. In addition to its high-quality teaching and learning environment, UCLAN also encourages MPharm students to engage in research activities.

UCLAN Pharmacy Interview Format

Before the Interview

You must take the time to reflect on the attributes and values of a pharmacist, and how you demonstrate these. You should also consider why you’re particularly interested in UCLAN. To better familiarise yourself with the profession and its values, consider using the following resources:
GPhC Website: The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is the regulatory body responsible for the pharmacy profession in Great Britain. Its website serves as an invaluable resource for aspiring pharmacists. Familiarise yourself with the GPhC standards, which provide a clear understanding of the expectations and responsibilities of pharmacists. Additionally, the GPhC website offers guidance documents, case studies, and news updates relevant to the pharmacy profession.
ORIEL SJT Practice: The ORIEL Situational Judgement Test (SJT) is an assessment used during the recruitment process for preregistration pharmacist training programs. Practising this test will allow you to develop crucial skills for ethical or case-based questions, such as decision-making, problem-solving, and communication.
University Resources: Visit UCLAN’s website and familiarise yourself with the curriculum, research interests, and facilities to demonstrate your understanding of and commitment to the program.

Crucially, you must practise extensively beforehand. Make use of a question bank, and conduct mock interviews – ideally with someone who has a healthcare background, or a tutor.
