Pharmacy Application & Interview Preparation Specialists
The University of Utah College of Pharmacy offers an innovative Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program that combines rigorous academics with practical experience. The program emphasises the development of critical thinking, evidence-based decision-making, and clinical skills, equipping graduates to excel in various pharmacy settings. A unique feature of the PharmD program is the Individualised Education Experience (IEE) component, which allows students to customise their education by choosing elective courses, practice experiences, and research projects that align with their professional interests. Students also have access to advanced learning technologies, such as the state-of-the-art Pharmacy Practice Simulation Lab, which facilitates the development of hands-on skills in a safe environment. The program’s strong emphasis on interprofessional collaboration ensures that graduates are prepared to work effectively with other healthcare professionals.
Interviews are closed-file, panel-style and typically take around half an hour. They take place at the school itself. Expect two or three interviewers to be on the panel

Tips, Techniques & Insight from Pharmacy Interviewers & Practising Pharmacists.
Questions focus on your motivation to study at the University of Utah, what you will bring to the school, understanding of and motivation for pharmacy, and some ethical situations. Focus on demonstrating your motivation to study at the institution, what unique qualities you bring, your understanding of and passion for pharmacy, and your approach to ethical situations. Research the university’s PharmD program, campus culture, and unique offerings in order to articulate why it’s the best fit for you. Reflect on your experiences and strengths that make you a valuable addition to the school community. Develop a clear narrative that highlights your passion for pharmacy and your commitment to the profession. Familiarise yourself with ethical considerations in pharmacy practice, such as patient confidentiality, medication errors, and prescription misuse. Reflect on personal experiences where you encountered ethical dilemmas and how you navigated them. Ensure that you practise your responses to potential interview questions on these topics – and others. Using a question bank or tutor can help to avoid any potential blindspots in your preparation.Â
The following strategies can help you effectively prepare for the topics particularly focused on at CUSP:
– Reflect on past experiences. Consider instances where you have demonstrated teamwork, critical thinking, leadership, and motivation in a pharmacy or healthcare setting.
– Research the roles and responsibilities of pharmacists, as well as current challenges and trends in the field.
– Participate in team-based projects, volunteer work, or extracurricular activities that involve collaboration and leadership.
– Use official resources. The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) offers valuable resources for prospective PharmD students, including guidance on preparing for interviews, advice on professional development, and information on current pharmacy issues. Visit the AACP website to access these resources and stay informed about the pharmacy profession.
– Attend mock interviews or workshops. You can access these either through universities or through tutoring agencies – for example, we offer one-to-one mocks.
– Familiarise yourself with situational questions that may be asked during the interview, such as those related to teamwork, leadership, and critical thinking. Develop well-thought-out responses that illustrate your skills and abilities in these areas, and strategies for approaching these types of questions.
