The American University of Antigua (AUA) College of Medicine is an innovative, forward-thinking institution in the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda. Established in 2004, AUA has evolved into a fully accredited medical school that holds steadfast commitment to fostering the next generation of global physicians. The school offers a Doctor of Medicine degree program, ensuring students receive a comprehensive education that not only focuses on academic mastery but also the development of crucial practical skills.
AUA’s curriculum closely mirrors that of U.S. medical schools, ensuring its graduates are well prepared for their medical careers anywhere in the world. Their robust medical program provides a diverse learning experience that combines extensive academic learning with hands-on clinical practice. By securing affiliation agreements with hospitals in the U.S. and Canada, AUA students also have the unique opportunity to complete clinical rotations in these countries, enriching their overall medical education.
However, quality education comes with a cost. The tuition fees at AUA, while competitive compared to other Caribbean medical schools, are significant. For the academic year 2023-2024, the tuition fee for the Basic Sciences component (semesters 1-4) is $21,500 per semester, and for the Clinical Sciences component (semesters 5-8), it is $28,750 per semester. These costs cover tuition only, and students must also account for additional expenses such as accommodation, travel, books, and other living costs.
Admission to AUA is selective and requires an interview. The interview process is designed to assess not only the applicant’s academic potential but also their interpersonal skills, professionalism, and dedication to a career in medicine. It’s typically conducted remotely via video conferencing and lasts approximately 30-45 minutes. The interviewers often include faculty members and admission officers.

As of 2023, AUA does not require the CASPer test (Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics) as part of its admissions process. However, AUA, like most medical schools, considers a holistic range of factors in its admission decisions, including academic performance, letters of recommendation, personal statements, and interview performance.
