Overview & Tuition Fees
The Szeged University is located in Szeged, the third largest city in Hungary. The university was founded in 1872, although it only moved to Szeged in 1921/ It is a research university, considered one of the most important in the country – often ranking at the top of Hungarian university rankings, as well as amongst the best in Europe.
The General Medicine program is divided as follows. The first two years are a foundation, and allow students to build up their basic medical knowledge. In the third year and onwards, training begins to incorporate regular clinical exposure, with students participating in both clinics and bedside work in hospitals. Additionally, you should expect to make use of the faculty’s laboratories, which allow students both to experience other aspects of Medicine, and take on research if they so desire. In the final two semesters, students will rotate through different medical specialties and treat patients, under the supervision of practising physicians. Following this final ‘apprenticeship’ they should feel confident in beginning their career as a doctor themselves.
The program commences in September each year, and the tuition fee is 7900 EUR per semester. There is a one-time application fee of 300 EUR.
Szeged University Medicine Interview Format
At Szeged University, applicants must take an entrance examination. It consists of a written section and an oral part, covering Biology, Chemistry (including Organic, Inorganic and Biochemistry) and the English Language. Physics can be selected in place of Chemistry. Students can take the exam a maximum of two times.
The written part of the exam is conducted using the University’s online testing platform, Coospace, and is monitored using zoom. There is a time limit of 80 minutes in which students must complete the test, although there is no time limit per question. Each test has three sections – there are 20 multiple-choice Biology questions, 20 multiple-choice Chemistry questions, and 20 English Language questions, covering General and Medical English. All questions are multiple-choice questions, and you will need to select one answer out of the 4-5 choices provided for each question. Each correct answer is one point, and there is no negative marking (in other words, you will not be deducted points if you provide a wrong answer). You will be given a periodic table for the Chemistry test.
The interview, or oral exam, is conducted with a University Professor, via Zoom. It will last for around 20 minutes, and could be recorded by the examiner if they so decide. You will initially discuss ‘general issues’ around Medicine, before being asked two questions in Biology, then two questions in Chemistry and English Language. You should dress professionally for this interview.
