The English language Medicine program at Safarik Medical University is 15 years old, and more than 600 international students have graduated in either Medicine or Dentistry. The Medicine course lasts for six years, or twelve terms.

The Faculty of Medicine is linked to the Teaching Hospital in Košice, and it is here that practical education takes place.

The Faculty of Medicine began teaching medical students in 1948, and has since then educated more than 15,000 students. More than 50 different countries are represented in the international student body at the university, and the diploma awarded is recognised in all countries of the European Union and in most of the federal states of the USA.

The medical faculty consists of around 70 units, including institutes, scientific research departments, experimental workplaces, and special-purpose facilities. The modern, high-rise medical school building is located close to the L. Pasteur University Hospital, where additional practical training takes place. It is important here that students have direct contact with patients relatively early, so that they are able to ‘link theory with practice.’

The final years of study are entirely practical, across both hospital wards, health care institutes, and clinics. Students then sit the state examinations before the Board of the Faculty Experts. Graduates are awarded the academic title “Doctor of General Medicine”, abbreviated “MUDr.” This is equivalent to an M.D. degree.


Tuition fees are 10,500 EUR per year, paid in two instalments across the year.

Safarik Medical University Medicine Interview & Exam Format

Safarik Medical University does not interview, but it does conduct an entrance examination across Biology and Chemistry. The examination consists of 100 questions from each subject, from a grand list of 600 available from the university – although targeted preparation with a tutor may be more efficient than attempting to learn all 600 questions.
