Poznan University of Medical Sciences is one of the leading medical schools in Poland. It prides itself on early patient contact, with students interacting with patients from the second year, when clinics begin. Theory is combined with practice from the outset, and students are also able to volunteer to assist their lecturers during their duties in clinics, which allows for active participation in medical procedures and surgeries. The school has a very high success rate in licensing exams, with a
81.5% USMLE Step 1 first-attempt passing rate, a 79.1% USMLE Step 2 CK first-attempt passing rate, and residency matches in the USA of 61% in 2022, 36% in 2021 and 63% in 2020. The school is number 1 in the LEK Polish Medical Licensing Examination results, and has a 90% overall pass rate in the Taiwanese national medical licensing exam.
Additionally, it boasts an entire building for medical simulation, with standardised patients, and also broad expertise in medical simulation as a whole – it therefore states that it is the leader in medical simulation education in Poland.
Students are able to practise their clinical skills in special practice rooms, which are equipped to simulate a real-life family medicine doctor’s office. Additionally, there is even an ultrasound laboratory available for workshops and student self-practice.
PUMS’ entrance exam is made up of two parts: a written science quiz and then an oral examination or interview with professors from the school.
The written science quiz is 60 minutes long, and is administered via the school’s distance learning platform OLAT. The exam is secured through online proctoring software. It covers core scientific knowledge, more information on which can be found on the university’s site.
The oral examination is between 20-40 minutes long, and is administered using Microsoft Teams. You will be expected to have both video and audio connection. A link to join the meeting will be e-mailed to you in advance. The content covered is, again, discussed in more information on the university’s site, across biology, chemistry, and physics.
