Oxford SFP Key Information

The Oxford Specialised Foundation Programme (SFP) offers 30 research-based posts, focusing on academic excellence in foundation training. The application process emphasises educational achievements such as publications, presentations, and prizes.

Publications require PubMed IDs, and presentations must be at recognized national or international conferences. Only first-place educational prizes are considered. Additional degrees, while not mandatory, contribute to the assessment of educational excellence. Posters or presentations must be recognised by a specific medical, professional or educational body.

The Oxford SFP’s application process involves a detailed academic assessment questionnaire. The program is designed to integrate core Foundation training with an enriched academic curriculum, providing research opportunities across various trusts in Foundation Year 1 and at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust in Year 2.

Oxford SFP Interview Format

The Oxford Foundation School’s interview process for its 30 Academic Foundation posts is carefully structured. Conducted by a panel of clinicians and academics, the interviews thoroughly assess candidates’ clinical and academic skills. A distinctive feature of these interviews is the inclusion of a data interpretation question, demanding a well-rounded skill set from the applicants. Candidates are required to pass every section of the interview to progress in the SFP process. Significantly, the offer process relies on interview performance, with application information merely serving as a potential tiebreaker. This stringent interview format underscores the program’s commitment to excellence, ensuring the selection of candidates who not only demonstrate clinical expertise but also academic prowess, vital for succeeding in the challenging environment of the Oxford Foundation School.
