What to Expect on Test Day

On the day of your OET test, it’s essential to arrive at the test venue well in advance of your scheduled start time. This will allow you to complete the check-in process and familiarize yourself with the test environment.

Check-in Process:

  1. Present your original, valid, and acceptable ID to the test administrator
  2. Verify your personal details and sign the attendance sheet
  3. Store any unauthorized items, such as mobile phones or bags, in the designated area
  4. Undergo a security check, which may include a metal detector scan or pat-down

Test Format and Timing:

The OET consists of four sub-tests: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. The Listening, Reading, and Writing sub-tests are completed in a single session, while the Speaking sub-test may be scheduled on the same day or a different day, depending on the test venue and availability.

– Listening (approximately 45 minutes): You will listen to a series of audio recordings and answer questions based on the content.

– Reading (60 minutes): You will read various texts and answer questions to demonstrate your understanding and ability to locate specific information.

– Writing (45 minutes): You will write a letter based on a given healthcare scenario, specific to your profession.

– Speaking (approximately 20 minutes): You will participate in two role-play scenarios with an interlocutor, simulating real-life healthcare situations.

During the test, you will be provided with the necessary materials, such as question booklets and answer sheets for the paper-based test, or a computer for the computer-based test. Familiarize yourself with the instructions and format of each sub-test to manage your time effectively.
