The recruitment process at No5 Barristers Chambers is an intensive two-round system, with an additional assessed mini-pupillage for second-round candidates. The first round of interviews is conducted in March, followed by the second in April. Applicants are assessed on various criteria, including intellectual ability, law practice experience, commitment, interpersonal skills, and public speaking. The general academic prerequisites include AAB at A-Level and a 2:1 at degree level, although alternative qualifications and mitigating circumstances are considered.
Written applications are part of the process, evaluated for organised thought, grammar, and responsiveness to the questions posed. The application window aligns with the Pupillage Gateway timetable, starting in January and closing in February.
