The University of Split School of Medicine, or the Medical Faculty Split, is the leading faculty of the University of Split – described as a ‘young and vibrant university on the Croatian Adriatic coast, with increasing visibility in the global research and academic community.’ The university boasts a culture of innovation and an interdisciplinary approach to learning, and partnerships with some of the best universities in the world, including the University of Ottawa in Canada and Medical College of Wisconsin in the USA.

There is a significant focus on evidence-based Medicine, and ‘globally relevant research and teaching’ ensures that this is a university that will cater for students wishing to be at the forefront of Medicine, and how it is taught.

The sixth year is entirely dedicated to clinical rotations, which integrate all previously acquired knowledge and skills. They cover Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Paediatrics and Family Medicine. Each is full time and lasts 4.5 weeks (180 hours), bar Family Medicine which is 2.5 weeks (100 hours). You will have a mentor during your clinical rotations, who will be the one that you follow, and also the one that you are able to discuss patients and treatment plans with. You are also able to choose specific sub specialties – even down to being able to choose a specific environment Family Medicine, like city, village, or island.

To be eligible to apply, you must have completed secondary school education and passed your  final exams.

You will need to supply:
– CV in English with photograph
– Birth certificate
– Passport or ID card photocopy (for foreign citizens); proof of nationality (domovnica) for Croatian citizens
– Motivation letter in English for applying to the Medical Studies in English Program in Split
– Originals or certified copies of degree certificates
– Proof of knowledge of English language (one of the following: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)) (unless your prior education was in English or English is your native tongue).

Fees are 12.000 EUR per year.

Medical Faculty Split Medicine Interview & Exam Format

The Medical Faculty of Split does not conduct an exam. However, it does state that you can boost the strength of your application through providing any of the following:

– Recommendation letters
– Transcript of records and proof of grade point average from completed university education (natural sciences college or university program with Biology, Chemistry or Physics as the major subject)
– Results of the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT)
– Results of the BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT)
– Results of SAT Reasoning Test (Biology, Physics or Chemistry);

The committee then assesses applications and ranks them based on core criteria and the above additional components. Then, candidates will be invited to interview. This can be conducted either in person or via Skype.
