LSBU Physiotherapy Interview Questions and Answers

Can you discuss a challenging situation you encountered during your work or academic studies, and how you or a healthcare provider that you were shadowing effectively managed it?

“Certainly. During my work experience placement at a rehabilitation center, I encountered a patient who was resistant to therapy due to fear of exacerbating their injury. To address this, the physio I was shadowing engaged in active listening, understanding their concerns, and collaborated with the multidisciplinary team to devise a tailored treatment plan. By building trust and providing reassurance, they gradually introduced therapeutic exercises, leading to improved compliance and positive outcomes for the patient.”

"How will you stay updated with advancements in physiotherapy practice and ensure your skills remain current?"

“I will prioritise continuous professional development by attending seminars, workshops, and subscribing to reputable journals in the field. Additionally, I’ll actively engage in online forums and participate in peer discussions to exchange knowledge and insights. By staying abreast of emerging research and evidence-based practices, I can ensure my skills are aligned with contemporary standards, enabling me to deliver optimal care to patients.”

Can you describe a situation where you had to work collaboratively within a team to achieve a common goal?

‘During a group project in school, our team encountered conflicting viewpoints regarding the approach to be taken. To address this, I facilitated open communication, fostering a supportive environment where each team member’s perspective was valued. By leveraging our diverse strengths and fostering consensus, we successfully developed a comprehensive project proposal that exceeded expectations.”

How will you handle situations where a patient's progress is slower than anticipated, and how do you maintain their motivation?

“In such scenarios, I will adopt a patient-centered approach, emphasising empathy and encouragement. I’ll assess the underlying factors contributing to the slower progress and adjust the treatment plan accordingly, setting realistic goals in collaboration with the patient. By providing regular feedback, celebrating incremental achievements, and instilling confidence, I will be able to empower patients to remain motivated and committed to their rehabilitation journey.”
