IMD MBA Interview Questions and Answers:

What attracts you to IMD's MBA program, and how do you believe it will help you achieve your career goals?

I am deeply drawn to IMD’s MBA program for several compelling reasons. Firstly, the school’s strong focus on leadership development aligns perfectly with my career aspirations. IMD’s personalized approach to leadership coaching, combined with its experiential learning opportunities such as the Leadership Lab and the International Consulting Projects, will provide me with the skills, self-awareness, and practical experience needed to become an effective and impactful leader in my field.

IMD’s small class size and collaborative culture really resonate with me. I value the opportunity to build close relationships with my classmates, to learn from their diverse perspectives and experiences, and to work together on challenging projects that simulate real-world business situations. IMD’s emphasis on teamwork and peer learning will not only enhance my interpersonal and communication skills but also prepare me to thrive in the increasingly collaborative and cross-functional nature of modern business.

Describe a situation where you demonstrated effective leadership skills in a challenging context.

In my previous role as a project manager at a software development company, I was tasked with leading a cross-functional team to develop and launch a new mobile application under a tight deadline. The project was of high strategic importance to the company, as it represented our first foray into the mobile market and had the potential to open up new revenue streams and customer segments.

However, midway through the project, we encountered a significant technical challenge that threatened to derail our progress and jeopardize the launch timeline. The team was under immense pressure, and morale was low. As the project leader, I knew I had to act quickly and decisively to keep the team motivated and on track.

I started by bringing the team together for an open and honest discussion about the challenges we were facing. I encouraged everyone to share their concerns and ideas, and I actively listened to their perspectives. Together, we brainstormed potential solutions and assessed the risks and trade-offs of each approach. I also reached out to other departments and external experts for guidance and support.

How do you plan to contribute to IMD's diverse and international community?

I am excited to contribute to IMD’s vibrant and diverse community in several meaningful ways, drawing on my unique background, experiences, and passions. As someone who has lived and worked in multiple countries across Europe and Asia, I have developed a deep appreciation for the value of cultural diversity in fostering innovation, creativity, and personal growth. I look forward to sharing my global perspectives and learning from the rich tapestry of nationalities and backgrounds represented in the IMD MBA cohort.

One of the ways I plan to contribute to the IMD community is by taking an active role in the school’s clubs and committees, particularly those focused on sustainability and social impact. As a passionate advocate for environmental conservation and corporate social responsibility, I want to collaborate with like-minded classmates to organize events, workshops, and projects that raise awareness about these critical issues and explore innovative solutions. For example, I would love to organize a sustainability hackathon that brings together students, faculty, and industry experts to develop new business models and technologies that promote a more sustainable and equitable future.
