In the 19th century, the school transitioned from focusing on local parish boys to serving boys from upper and middle-class backgrounds. The school moved to its current site in Highgate Village and continued to evolve, introducing science education under the leadership of J.A.H. Johnston in the early 20th century. After being temporarily evacuated during World War II, the school returned to Highgate and has since continued to grow and adapt, becoming fully co-educational in 2004.
