Godolphin & Latymer was named the Sunday Times Independent Secondary School of the Year 2020, a huge achievement. The school states that ‘Godolphin girls are warm, lively and grounded in the real world, achieve excellent GCSE, A Level and IB results, but wear their academic credentials lightly.’ Whether or not they wear their academic credentials lightly, this is an incredibly high-achieving school, noted for almost unbeatable grades. Alongside these grades are a wide range of extracurricular activities that see students taking on numerous challenges in sports, music, drama, research or business. The school encourages girls to ‘freely exchange ideas and opinions and pursue leadership opportunities and positions of responsibility, without any perceived limits or stereotypes.’ Values that are emphasised include risk-taking, resilience and a ‘belief that nothing is beyond [one’s] reach or aspiration.’
The school seeks to create an inclusive community of diverse backgrounds, and therefore has an excellent means-tested bursary programme, which provides fee assistance for talented applicants who would otherwise not be able to afford the tuition fees of £7,695 per term.
Academic results here are incredibly strong, with A*s making up 89% of GCSE results in 2020, and an astonishing 97% of GCSEs being either A* or A. The average IB score was 41 in the same year, and 95% of school leavers went to their first choice university, with 19 going on to Oxbridge and 4 studying Medicine.

In Year 7, all students study Mandarin, differentiating this school from most others in the UK. As well as this, students will take one European language chosen from French, Spanish and German. In Year 8, students can choose whether to continue with both Year 7 languages (Mandarin + European language), or choose a second European language (French, German or Spanish) to study alongside their Year 7 European language. In Year 9, students can choose to study what the school labels ‘Gratin’ (Greek with Latin), Latin or Classical Civilisation.
GCSE subjects are made up of a core curriculum of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Triple Award Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), and a Modern Foreign Language (French, German, Spanish, Italian or Mandarin), with a wide range of additional subjects.
Sixth form students can choose whether to take the IB or A Level pathways. The school offers the following range of subjects at A Level: Ancient History, Fine Art, Biology, Chemistry, Classical Civilisation, Computer Science, Drama and Theatre Studies, Economics, English Language, English Literature, French, Geography, German, Greek, History (Modern and Early Modern), Politics, History of Art, Italian, Latin, Mandarin, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Music, Physics, Religious Studies (Philosophy and Theology), and Spanish.

Godolphin & Latymer is part of the London 11+ Consortium, which is introducing a new assessment process designed to ‘discover a child’s potential in creative and critical thinking, analysis, synthesis and problem-solving.’ This test will be 100 minutes in total. Candidates that perform well in this entrance test will then be invited to attend for interview so that the school can get to know them better and assess whether Godolphin and Latymer is the right school for them.
The application process here is divided into two stages – the first is the new assessment exam, and the second is the interview for students that achieve sufficient marks here. Expect interviews to take place in the middle of January.
