Communication
Why are you interested in studying pharmacy?
How would you explain the importance of medication adherence to a patient?
Describe a time when you had to communicate complex information to someone with limited understanding. What approach did you use to ensure they understood the information?
Can you provide an example of when you had to effectively communicate with a team to achieve a common goal?
How would you handle a situation where a patient is not satisfied with the information you provided about their medication?

Numeracy
A patient takes two 500 milligram paracetamol tablets, three times a day. How many milligrams of paracetamol does the patient take each day?
A prescription for a patient requires 250 mL of a 5% solution. If you have 10% and 2% solutions available, how many mL of each solution should you mix to create the required concentration?
If a drug has a half-life of 4 hours and you administer a 200 mg dose, how much of the drug will remain in the patient’s system after 12 hours?
A prescription calls for 30 mg of medication per day for 10 days. If the medication is available in 100 mg tablets, how many tablets will the patient need for the entire course?
If a 500 mL IV bag contains 2,000 mg of medication and should be administered over 4 hours, what should the infusion rate be in millilitres per hour?

Situational Judgement
You work part time in a pharmacy as a counter assistant, working regular Saturdays but sometimes being called upon at short notice to cover evening shifts when necessary. One evening, the shop manager calls you and asks you to work that evening. He tells you that one of your co-workers has phoned in sick and the shop will be short staffed as a result. Another colleague has already worked a full day and she will need to carry on to also cover the evening shift if you are unable to help. You apologise and explain that you cannot cover this evening because you have tickets to a pop concert that you booked months ago. While waiting in the queue to enter the concert venue, that evening, you see your co-worker ahead of you in the queue. What would you do?
You suspect a colleague has made a medication error. What actions would you take to address the situation?
How would you handle a situation where a patient is noncompliant with their medication regimen?
A patient is concerned about the side effects of their medication. How would you address their concerns while ensuring they understand the importance of taking the medication as prescribed?
You are working in a busy pharmacy and a patient becomes agitated and starts raising their voice. How would you handle this situation?
You are asked to dispense a medication that you believe may be inappropriate for a patient’s condition. What steps would you take to address your concerns?
