University Information

Cornell was founded in 1865, and is a private institution. It has a total undergraduate student body of 15,503, and is a 745 acre campus in a rural area. It has a semester based academic calendar. It ranked 17th in the most recent ranking of Best Colleges, and tuition fees are $63,200 per year.

The school has more than 1000 student organisations. First years live together on campus, with upperclassmen and graduate students being able to live on campus or off it. There is a significant Greek life, with more than 60 fraternities and sororities. There are 35 different NCAA Division I varsity teams competing in the Ivy League. The men’s lacrosse and wrestling teams are particularly well renowned. There are seven undergraduate colleges, of which the largest are the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The graduate schools include the Weill Cornell Medical College, College of Engineering, and the Law School. Famous alumni include Rude Bader Ginsburgh and Bill Nye.

Course Information

The Cornell Law School curriculum is a ‘rigorous program of legal education designed to prepare students, upon graduation, for admission to the bar and for effective, ethical, and responsible participation in the legal profession at the highest levels.’ As such, there are aims for all Cornell graduates in Law. These are:
– That they will possess knowledge of the substantive and procedural law required to effectively participate in the profession
– That they will engaged in legal research, analysis, and problem solving
– That they will be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums, and act as counsellors and advocates
– That they will possess the practical skills to be exceptional lawyers and exceptional representatives of their clients
– That they will conduct themselves to the highest standards, both in terms of morals and ethics.
