Why have you chosen to pursue an MBA at City, University of London?

I am drawn to City, University of London’s MBA program for several compelling reasons. Firstly, the school’s location in the heart of London, one of the world’s leading financial and business centers, provides unparalleled access to a diverse range of industries and networking opportunities. The MBA program’s strong emphasis on practical learning, through initiatives like the Business Mastery Project and the International Consultancy Week, aligns perfectly with my desire to apply classroom concepts to real-world business challenges. Additionally, City’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainability, as demonstrated by the MBA’s core module on “Responsible Leadership” and the school’s research centers like the Centre for Charity Effectiveness, resonates with my personal values and aspirations to make a positive impact in my career. Lastly, the program’s diverse student body, representing over 40 nationalities, will expose me to different cultural perspectives and enhance my global business acumen, preparing me for success in an increasingly interconnected world.

Describe a situation where you faced an ethical dilemma in your professional life and how you navigated it.

In my previous role as a marketing manager at a pharmaceutical company, I faced an ethical dilemma when our team was pressured to promote a new drug with misleading claims about its efficacy and safety. While the drug had shown promising results in initial trials, there were concerns about potential side effects and long-term risks that had not been fully investigated. As the person responsible for developing the marketing strategy, I felt conflicted between meeting the aggressive sales targets set by senior management and ensuring that we provided accurate and transparent information to healthcare professionals and patients. I raised my concerns with my manager and the company’s compliance department, advocating for a more responsible approach that prioritized patient safety and ethical marketing practices. I presented a revised marketing plan that focused on the drug’s proven benefits while clearly communicating its limitations and potential risks. Although this approach required adjusting our sales projections and timelines, I believed it was the right thing to do to maintain the company’s integrity and build trust with our customers.

How do you plan to contribute to the City MBA community and make the most of your MBA experience?

I am excited to actively engage with and contribute to the vibrant City MBA community. As someone passionate about fintech and entrepreneurship, I plan to join the City Entrepreneurs Club and the Fintech Society to collaborate with like-minded individuals and stay at the forefront of emerging trends and innovations in these fields. I hope to leverage my experience in marketing and business development to support these clubs in organizing industry events, workshops, and startup competitions, fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the program. Additionally, I am eager to participate in the City MBA’s mentoring scheme, both as a mentee to learn from experienced professionals and alumni, and as a mentor to share my knowledge and support the development of my fellow classmates. I also look forward to engaging with the school’s research centers, particularly the Centre for Charity Effectiveness, to explore opportunities to apply my business skills to make a positive social impact and contribute to the sector’s development.
