Chicago Booth MBA Interview Questions and Answers:

How do you plan to take advantage of Chicago Booth's flexible curriculum and unique learning opportunities, such as the LEAD program and the New Venture Challenge, to pursue your academic and professional interests?

One of the main reasons I am drawn to Chicago Booth is the school’s flexible curriculum, which allows students to tailor their learning experience to their unique interests and goals. As someone with a background in finance and a passion for entrepreneurship, I am excited to take advantage of the many opportunities at Booth to deepen my knowledge and skills in these areas while also exploring new subjects and perspectives.

The LEAD (Leadership Effectiveness and Development) program is a particular highlight for me, as it combines classroom learning with hands-on practice and personalized feedback to help students develop their leadership and interpersonal skills. Through the program, I hope to gain a better understanding of my own leadership style and strengths, as well as learn new strategies for motivating and influencing others. I believe that the LEAD program will be invaluable in preparing me for the challenges and opportunities of leading teams and organizations in my future career.

Share an example of how you have demonstrated resilience and adaptability in the face of uncertainty or change, and how you think Chicago Booth's resources, such as the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, can help you navigate ambiguity and drive impact.

One of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my career thus far was navigating the uncertainty and change brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic in my role as a financial analyst at a global manufacturing company. When the pandemic first hit, our company faced significant disruptions to our supply chain and operations, as well as a sharp decline in demand for our products. As part of the finance team, I was tasked with helping the company adapt to these new realities and find ways to remain financially stable and competitive in a rapidly evolving market.

To do this, I had to demonstrate resilience and adaptability in the face of unprecedented challenges and ambiguity. One of the first things I did was to work closely with our operations and supply chain teams to develop new financial models and scenarios that accounted for the various risks and uncertainties we were facing. This required me to be proactive in seeking out new data and insights, as well as flexible in my thinking and approach as the situation continued to evolve.

What unique qualities, experiences, or perspectives do you bring to the Chicago Booth community, and how do you think they will enrich the diversity and vibrancy of the school?

I believe that my unique background and experiences as a first-generation college student, a veteran, and a social entrepreneur would bring valuable perspectives and insights to the Chicago Booth community. Growing up in a low-income neighborhood and being the first in my family to attend college, I had to overcome significant obstacles and challenges to get to where I am today. Through hard work, determination, and the support of mentors and advocates, I was able to excel academically and earn a scholarship to study engineering at a top university.

After graduation, I decided to serve my country by enlisting in the military, where I had the opportunity to lead diverse teams in high-pressure situations and develop my skills in problem-solving, communication, and leadership. As a veteran, I bring a unique perspective on the importance of discipline, integrity, and service, as well as a deep appreciation for the value of teamwork and collaboration in achieving common goals.

Following my military service, I became involved in social entrepreneurship, co-founding a nonprofit organization that provides education and job training to underserved communities. Through this experience, I gained firsthand exposure to the challenges and opportunities of starting and scaling a social enterprise, as well as a deep passion for using business as a force for good in the world. I learned the importance of empathy, creativity, and resilience in driving social impact, as well as the power of cross-sector collaboration and partnerships in tackling complex global challenges.
