General Interview Information

Chester Medical School offers a four-year, graduate entry MBChB programme, a unique opportunity for those with degrees in any discipline to pursue a career in medicine. Anticipating the welcome of their first cohort in September 2024, the school is undergoing a quality assurance process by the General Medical Council (GMC) to ensure the high standards of medical education are met. Chester’s inclusive approach extends to international and EU students, who are required to possess at least a 2:1 Bachelor’s degree in any subject, meet the threshold in UCAT, GAMSAT, or MCAT exams, and have 70 hours of healthcare or allied work experience.

Standard Interview Format

While specific details regarding the interview process are not yet available, it is reasonable to expect that Chester Medical School will adopt the popular Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs). MMIs are designed to assess the core competencies and attributes of prospective doctors as outlined by the GMC. These interviews involve a series of short, timed stations where candidates are evaluated on specific skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and ethical judgement.

Before the Interview

In preparation for MMIs focusing on GMC’s core competencies and attributes, applicants should familiarise themselves with these expectations. Regularly reflect on personal experiences and how they align with these competencies. Practice under MMI conditions, focusing on conveying thoughts clearly and effectively under time constraints. Engage in debates on ethical issues in healthcare and maintain awareness of current medical news. This preparation can instil the confidence and agility needed to succeed in MMIs.
