Overall Guide to Charterhouse

Charterhouse, established in 1611, is one of the great historic public schools of England, embodying a legacy of academic excellence combined with a forward-thinking approach to education.

Academically, Charterhouse offers a rigorous and broad curriculum designed to foster intellectual curiosity and promote deep understanding. Subjects from the Sciences to the Humanities are taught by experienced and passionate faculty members, encouraging each pupil to realise their full potential.

Beyond the classroom, Charterhouse places significant emphasis on co-curricular activities. Its pupils participate in a myriad of sports, ranging from cricket and football to swimming and golf. The school’s impressive sports facilities, combined with professional coaching, facilitate this culture of physical excellence. Charterhouse’s Arts programme is equally impressive, with strong departments in music, drama, and visual arts, providing numerous opportunities for pupils to express their creativity and develop their talents.

The school’s pastoral care system is centred around its thirteen Boarding Houses, fostering a close-knit, supportive community. This structure ensures that each pupil receives individual attention and care, promoting their personal and social development. Charterhouse instils in its pupils a sense of responsibility, integrity, and a commitment to serving others, equipping them with the values and skills necessary to succeed beyond school.
