The 16+ admissions process at Alleyn’s School is a carefully structured journey, beginning with the registration phase, which runs from September 1 to mid-October. This initial phase includes the submission of an application form, part of which is completed by the parents and the other part, a personal statement, by the candidates themselves. This personal statement is a pivotal component, providing candidates the opportunity to articulate their motivations for joining Alleyn’s.

Following the registration, candidates undergo a series of entrance assessments at the start of November. These assessments, including general papers in Qualitative Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Critical Writing, are designed to be inclusive and evaluate the potential of candidates to thrive in Alleyn’s academic environment.

The interview stage, scheduled for the end of November, is integral to the selection process. Candidates who perform well in the assessments are invited to engage in interviews, which delve into their academic interests and personal aspirations. The interview process includes a general interview with the Upper School team, focusing on the candidates’ subject choices and their reasons for wanting to join Alleyn’s. Additionally, two academic interviews are conducted in the subjects the candidate wishes to pursue at A-Level, where interviewers assess the candidates’ potential and aptitude in those subjects.

It evolved from the College of God’s Gift and became an independent boys’ school in 1882, reflecting a commitment to education and community service. The school’s notable transition to a co-educational institution in 1976, following the abolition of the direct grant grammar school status, marked a significant moment in its history, emphasising inclusivity and diversity. The development of the school’s facilities, including the Edward Alleyn Building for theatre, further highlights its commitment to arts and culture. How do you plan to make the most of the opportunities at Alleyn's School?

At Alleyn’s School, Dulwich, I plan to fully embrace the wide array of opportunities available to enhance my educational experience. I am particularly keen on participating in the Combined Cadet Force, which offers unique leadership and teamwork experiences. This, along with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, will allow me to develop skills that are invaluable both inside and outside the classroom. The school’s strong emphasis on arts and drama is particularly appealing to me. I look forward to being actively involved in the productions at the Michael Croft Theatre, which will enable me to pursue my passion for drama and enhance my performance skills. Additionally, the school’s music program offers a fantastic opportunity to join choirs and musical ensembles, furthering my musical education. Academically, I aim to engage rigorously in the classroom, making the most of the diverse curriculum and learning from the experienced faculty. Outside of academics, I plan to participate in sports and other extracurricular activities to ensure a balanced and holistic school experience.
